How Credit Score Affects Your Car Payment

Credit can affect the APR you are offered. Learn how to test different APR assumptions without relying on one quoted rate.

Your credit profile can affect the APR a lender offers, but there is no single APR that applies to every borrower in a credit-score range. Lenders can also consider income, debt, loan amount, vehicle, term, and other factors.

Model the effect instead of guessing

One useful approach is to test several APR assumptions in the calculator. For example, compare the same vehicle and term at 6%, 8%, and 10%. This shows the dollar effect of the rate difference without claiming that any one rate is guaranteed.

Compare the full cost

Look at monthly payment, total interest, and total paid. A small APR difference can matter more over a long repayment schedule than it appears from the monthly payment alone.
